March 10, 2012 HCGS - Probates - Land Records

The March meeting of the Honolulu County Genealogy Society was held on March 10th at 9am.  A couple surprise videos were presented: one about Probate and Land Records on DVD from "Ancestry" and another program from a BYUTV television series, entitled "The Generations Project" This program highlighted "Ed" who sought his Native American roots and discovered a rich Scottish ancestry.   Members discussed their ancestors' probate records, genealogy tips, questions and comments.

Longtime Genealogy Society member, Marguerite Peach, bid a fond aloha as she will be moving to the Mainland.  Thanks to her for her wonderful spirit and continued support.

In the meantime, on Fridays at 7 pm on NBC be sure to watch the genealogy series: "Who Do You Think You Are"    Friday, Mar 2nd featured the ancestry search of Reba McEntire.   Reba found the reason her nine-year-old ancestor immigrated to America by himself in the early 1700s.   Superbowl champion Jerome Bettis was featured on March 9th, 2012.  Helen Hunt was featured on March 16th.   You can also watch various full past episodes online at  http://www.nbc.com/who-do-you-think-you-are/
If you have access to BYUTV on cable television (channel 409 on Oceanic Cable)  there are two excellent weekly programs offered relating to genealogy and family connections.  They are "Ancestors" and "The Generations Project"  Also on BYUTV is a series called "The Story Trek" - interesting with the premise that anybody randomly selected has a story to tell.  Isn't that what we say about our ancestors?
