HCGS Meeting Nov 10, 2018 - Stanley Jones

The November 10, 2018 meeting of the Honolulu County Genealogical Society featured member, Stan Jones who gave a presentation on genealogical research methods including "Tips and Techniques for Effective Interviewing;" “Afterlife Conferences;” “Together Through Korea; Alzheimer’s;” and “Getting on the Road to Trace Your Roots.”

Stan Jones discussed the value of interviewing ancestors for cute family antidotal stories.  He informed us that there is Information in funeral homes, believe it or not.  Check neighbors of ancestors in the census records and their histories as there may be some overlap of stories.  Differences in names and name changes were discussed.


Donna mentioned FloridaMemories.com where she found list of first autos registered in FL and the DP.LA or Digital public library of America -

Lenore recommended the site Animap for seeing a certain area at a certain time.

Familysearch.org - put in family name and location to try to fine specific church records.

Going on the road for your genealogy:  he mentioned a site on cleaning tombstones.(?). AMERICAN WAY OF DEATH by Jessica Mitford, also recommended by Sonny Gay.
