Program:
“Old Family Pictures as Aids to Genealogical Research"
with Stan Jones
Bring your family photographs that have
significance in your genealogical research.
Among the many photos that members
brought to the meeting, here is one shown by
Donna Wendt of her great-great grandfather,
Joshua Wallace. A person bought a daguerreotype
in a case at an antique show. It had the name of
Joshua Wallace inside. He tracked down that
name to Donna's blog about him and it turned
out to be the mirror image that was later made
from that into a "crayon" portrait. They met in
Denver and compared their pictures.

The small encased daguerreotype of Joshua Wallace
probably taken in 1851 when he married his
2nd wife in Indiana |
|
Joshua Wallace large "crayon" type portrait
passed down to Donna's cousin through
their grandmother. This is the way an artist
could replicate a small portrait, in mirror image,
and share with numerous children, etc. |
